Originally, the hospital of Carrara, in the village of Grazzano before 1335, there was an oratory dedicated to St. And James S. Christopher from which it takes its name, the hospital itself.

On 7 May 1564 there was a confraternity erected entitled "Della Pieta and St. James."

The current church of SS. James and Christopher is a restoration of the church and was blessed on 18 March 1727 by Prior Manzi (Lucchese).

The church is the eighteenth in the Baroque style with a single aisle and has within it three altars. the largest is surmounted by a painting depicting the Pietà and the valuable work of "Christ on the Cross, carved in wood of olive Getzemani, traveled to Carrara by Monsignor Francesco Maria Sicili.

Before the same altar, were placed the tomb of Pronotario Apostolic Archbishop Giuseppe Grandi and burial of the plaque Bishop Francesco Maria Silicon, first proposed the Chaplaincy of St. nell'Ospedale James and S. Christopher.

The second altar is dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto and the third to the Holy Family.

At present this church is not open because it is under restoration.
