Carmine's Church

carmine's church

The church was built between the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries and was consecrated in 1605. The façade, restored in 1853 according to the project of the sculptor G. Ugolini, is made up of an upper part of four pillars and Corinthian capitals with a cornice on top as base for a large gable; two niches containing two statues of saints. In the lower section, the most noteworthy feature is the Baroque doorway with gable containing a statue of great value representing a Madonna of the second half of the 15th century by B. Ordonez. In the aisleless interior, under the choir, protected by a parapet with small columns, there is a painted wooden representation of the Holy Family.

The high altar is made of polychrome marble; the tympanum with marble decorations contains a fresco of the Holy Virgin in a niche; on both sides of the altar there are two marble bookstands. There are four minor altars, two on each side of the church; on the left as you walk in, the first of them in polychrome marble is dedicated to the Madonna and the second is supported by two putti; on the opposite side, the first altar in polychrome marble is embellished with a painting in a marble frame of the Madonna among angels and worshipping saints, whilst the second contains a canvas of the Sacred Heart.
